I just finished another play through of Journey, only my second time using my white coat, too.
I spent the majority of the adventure with the same companion; it seemed to only be their second or third journey, and it was a wonderful one at that. We zig-zagged through the sands, and chirped and chimed constantly to stay together. I even got to show them the cloth dragon, circling the roof of the small room in the tower level, and the little flOw creature at the bottom. We travelled together from the broken bridge, all the way to the second encounter with machines in the snowy mountain. Then all of a sudden, they sat down. At first nothing happened - I thought that maybe they just wanted to get the reflection trophy before we continued - so I sat down next to them… and then they vanished into the snow. It was heart-wrenching, to be honest. I’d been so looking forward to reaching Apotheosis with them, as they were such a fun companion to have. I was so shocked from it, that I accidentally walked right into the light of a passing machine. It’s a sad sight, really… watching a white cloak get thrown helplessly through the snow, hardly able to muster the motivation to continue. But I did… alone.
As I trudged through the rest of the level, I constantly looked behind to check for any last stragglers. I was almost all the way up the final mountain climb, when I stopped for a moment and stared down. I could see a shape in the distance, rectangular like a far away cloak. I waited for a few seconds, but it never drew nearer… it was just the final grave that I had passed, a solemn sight for the occasion. I was ready to turn back when I saw another shape, off to the left this time. I thought it was just another tombstone, until it grew larger, and seemed to tremble in the wind. I contemplated just continuing, hoping they hadn’t seen me, and ascending by myself. And I almost did. But I stopped myself, because I remembered how saddening it is to lose all of your companions, and be forced to cross through the mountain alone. And no one should have to finish Journey alone. So I walked in the opposite direction, down the mountain, and to their side. We died together, up there in the snow. And awoke with the cloth dragons in Apotheosis, together. We sailed through the sky, chirping and chiming to stay together. For a moment along the way, I thought I lost them, and my heart sank into my stomach. But a few seconds later they were back, and we soared through the air again. We went straight through the final gate and up the shining golden light, together. As we landed on the snowy mountaintop, I drew a heart… for both of my companions. And finally, we walked into the light.
Not alone, like we would have been, but together.

I always wonder if the people I’m sharing my journey with feel the same way as I do. The beauty of flying together, the slow changes of scenery, sometimes the bond that is created between two travelers, and the fear to lose your companion on the way… and eventually, the…
I was looking over at some Journey gifs a moment ago and I realized something. It might be just a random thought and i don’t know if it has been pointed out before, but if you look closely, I think the giant scarf creature from the underground tower and the stone dragons might be the same…
I always wonder if the people I’m sharing my journey with feel the same way as I do. The beauty of flying together, the slow changes of scenery, sometimes the bond that is created between two travelers, and the fear to lose your companion on the way… and eventually, the breath-taking experience of walking through that gate together. I really do hope other travelers can feel the same, for it is something so special, so unique, even though I’ve done it so many times now.
The first time I played Journey, I was engrossed in its spiritual beauty and powerful imagery without words. This was about three months ago. Now, I’ve played it again, only this time, with another player. It was an amazing experience overall. We communicated through chirps as we flew through the…
I’m working on a little art project for Journey because it’s so beautiful, but I needed to know the order of the events of the last chapter. I started the game up and transported to the Mountain, where I saw another player on the bridge, way ahead of me. Unsure if they wanted to join me or not, I…
Oh my god I am so sorry you sweety sweet newbie, I saw you spinning all around me while I was meditating and getting ready to quit, I hope you aren’t too lost in the tower and meet another journeyer to finish the game with aaaaaaaaaaaaaa

Here’s my story of the first time i played journey.
i found a companion early on - the first level actually. we were helping each other out and such, but we got separated after about the second level. i met another companion right after going through the cave with all the stone monsters in it - i got hit once - but the person i met seemed un touched, their scarf was very long.
we had a great fun time together, we helped each other out, chirped and jumped our way along the beaten path. but it was when we got to the snow section of the game that i really started to get a serious sense of friendship and teamwork. with the snow able to freeze you, and slow you down, we stayed very close together to keep each other warm. that really made me smile - i would never leave their side, and they would never leave mine. it was like we had been a team for ages, even though we had only met in the same day. the moment that really warmed my heart was when the both of us were walking along the windy balcony, and we had to get to little platforms next to the main wind path so we wouldn’t get blown back. when the both of us went up the stairs and got to the platform safe. i saw that there was no railing on the platform ahead that we needed to go to. once the wind stopped, we made it up to the next platform. my friend barely stayed atop, but i fell down to the balcony below.
i thought that they would leave me, but i was wrong. i saw the chirps of light that they were calling out to me as i was traveling up. i chirped back - and so did they. when i made it to the top again, and wound up at the next door - there he/she was, waiting for me! it made me really happy, and we sat there and chirped at each other for a little to share our happiness. from that point on we stayed close together, even through the part where we get our scarves back and can fly wherever we want. i finished the game with them. and sent them a little message thanking them for such a wonderful experience.
I bought Journey two days ago, trusting one of my best friend’s advice to get it.
My first time, I didn’t know that the other travelers were actually players. I just thought they were, maybe NPCs or something. I don’t know. But I had a companion and one of the most joyous things was surfing through the sand with them. However, my companion vanished right before we encountered my first stone monster.
I was attacked by the stone monster and finished the game alone. And while I was completely floored by the experience, it left me with this insane feeling of despair.
Fast forward to today. I’ve been trophy hunting. I wasn’t expecting to pick up a companion, but I did. They were a noobie and absolutely adorable. I showed them around and helped them out. Or rather, we helped each other out. Well, I was distracted and got hit by a stone monster in front of them. They came over to me. Chirped a few times. Then they walked out into the opening and right into the light of a stone monster. On purpose. I just stood there. They got up and came back over to me. Chirped a few times. Turned around. Took a few steps. Chirped more at me to start moving.
I was just absolutely floored by that. I was almost in tears.
Thank you for sticking with me through our entire adventure. I had a great time with you, chattering away as we twirled around each other, drawing zigzag patterns in the snow after we made our hearts. I hope I showed you some things you didn’t know about and got you some achievements! I’m also sorry we had our scarves ripped at the end. We were so close to getting out perfectly!
May I comment that I am extremely surprised that you’ve never felt many emotions during other video games, bentleyhacker? Have you ever tried games such as ICO, Shadow of the Colossus, Heavy Rain, Silent Hill 2, and the Final Fantasy games (X is my personal favourite)? There is a wealth of video games out there that evoke emotions outside of the usual anger, competitiveness and triumph. Even if you’re not an overly emotional person, I challenge you not to feel deep sympathy for Ethan’s plight in Heavy Rain, or to emotionally connect to Yorda in ICO! :)
This was my first journey as a white cloak, and I went into fully expecting to meet a newer player to mentor. When I saw that my companion was another white cloak, albeit one that had played many, many more times than I had, I was admittedly a little disappointed. So I started doing my own thing and gathering the glyphs in the area to fly across the broken bridge without repairing it, as I had yet to complete that achievement. My partner flew near me but wasn’t clingy and also went about collecting the glyphs. We started crossing the broken bridge together, but at one point I (who am admittedly klutz in this game, especially when I fly) took off too soon and fell. My partner not only waited for me, they jumped ship and went back to the beginning to fly with me.
That set the tone for the entire journey. I may have found all of the glyphs, but I had so much to learn! They patiently waited at the top of nearly every dune in the desert while I dicked around, made sure I hit every glyph even though I knew where they were, stuck by myeand chirped encouragement constantly, tested my ability to fall on my face (still rusty but I can do it occasionally,) and kept me aloft as we flew through the underground cavern. They showed me how to complete the temple level without activating the magic water at all (how breathtaking to ride the shark/dragon/ribbon creature in that little circular space!) and a glitch that lets you skip a large portion of the snow level. Even in the final apotheosis area, where most people (including myself, usually) just tear off on their own, they stuck with me, chirping happily. At the end we drew hearts for each other in the snow and jumped about and chirped. It was quite wonderful. I have never had someone stick with me from start to finish before, and not only did that get me a trophy, it made me feel so happy, special, and cherished.
So many, many heartfelt thanks to my very first white cloak. You have taught me well, so that I may teach others. <3
I hope you don't mind, but I wanted to ask this blog for some help. Yesterday I had to leave behind one of the best Journey companions I've ever met and I want to send them a message telling them I had fun and I'm sorry for leaving. Sadly, my buddy speaks Japanese and I don't know any. Would anyone mind helping me writer/translate a short message?
Would any Japanese-speaking travellers like to help a companion in need? :)
EDIT: kelseycoffee, I have found somebody who would like to try and help you write your message. Would you please open your ask box so hirasawalyrics can contact you?
Soo I felt like journeying before bed and I travelled with the cutest day 2. <3333 He met me halfway through the bridge, where I was pausing, and waited for me to come back. He was more than happy to be my companion; when I tried to lead him through the desert and show him the hidden spots, he…
I finally found a travelling buddy during my fourth climb. JJ appeared in white, right near the beginning, at the broken bridge, and showed me how to do everything, which was annoying, because I knew most of it. But then she showed me how to get the Threshold trophy, and was patient and encouraging while I sucked at platforming. I seriously expected her to give up on me, but she just stayed there and waited, and chirped, and I decided to interpret it as cheerleading and I finally made it.
She guided me to glyphs I had missed during the descent, and found me a mural that I consistently overlooked, and it was basically like following the chattiest walkthrough ever. I loved it. I was so looking forward to climbing the mountain with her.
And then at the top of the temple, I stepped into the circle and she didn’t. I waited for her in the snow, and she didn’t come. Two other people passed, and eventually I continued traveling with one of them, but my new buddy wasn’t as helpful or attentive or talkative, and basically wasn’t JJ. It was really sad.
And I’m going to sleep depressed tonight. Video games don’t usually do this to me. Thanks for the guidance, JJ.
I met the sweetest girl while playing Journey! She helped me collect some of the glowing symbols and other things for trophies. She also drew hearts in the sand/snow at the very end of the journey. Such a darling, I wish I could have taken a picture. Journey was money well spent imo! ♡
Ready to play and help others a White Cloaked Journeyer took to the sands. They climbed the dunes chirping as they went hoping to find friends along the way. As they reached the Cloth Bridge they found that they were alone. The Journeyer released the cloth strips one at a…
