Journey Stories

Earlier today I went on my first Journey. I was hoping I might meet up with a companion, and luckily I did in the second area! (They seemed like they might’ve been new to the game like me.) We clicked right away, always following each other. If we ever got separated for too long, one of us would wait and chirp until the other found us again. It was an equal exchange, too. I showed them some glyphs and they showed me some; in fact, I would’ve missed one without their help!

In the room with the first monsters, we were both so shocked when the first one appeared we ran away together! After that we managed to get through the entire room without getting eaten, even though they daringly glided down the last stretch (I really hoped they’d be okay, and they were, thankfully!).

In the tower I got a little lost. I was trying to find the little fish, so I kept going off on my own (but I was chirping to make sure they knew where I was!). I’m so glad they were patient with me and didn’t just go off on their own. In the end we both found the fish together!

We braved the snowy mountain together too, huddling close to keep as warm as possible. In the field with the monsters, it broke my heart when they ventured ahead and got caught! A similar thing happened to me later when I didn’t follow them properly and was caught too. We both went through a scary experience like that because we didn’t stick together. I felt like that was some sort of lesson.

But we made it to the end together. Through all those trials. I was so happy to have a companion who stuck with me the whole way! As we were walking into the light together, we were chirping non-stop. I hope they were just as happy to have me along as I was to have them.

It was a beautiful first journey. Thank you, my companion, for sticking with me! Even in the times where I wanted to explore and led us down a dead-end or a wrong path. In case you’re reading this now, I’m Iuliathe3rd. Thank you, thank you! I hope your experience was a good one too!

So I just played Journey, it’s an amazing game by a studio called “that game company”. I REALLY recommend this game to everyone who owns a PS3, and highly suggest you get it, play it, and have your own adventure!

It’s much left up to the player’s interpretation of what happens in it, but the basic premise is you’re a journeyer who is in the desert, and is heading towards a glowing mountain. Every now and then you’ll see shrines/graves which you activate, and it’ll show you somewhat of a story. You can venture round and check out amazing bits of scenery that others may not have even discovered. One of the best parts is playing online, where other players adventuring in the game might see you and join you, maybe show you what THEY’VE discovered and you can show them and continue on your journey as a team.

But here’s my story as I played it. (It’s under a Read More because it’s really long, but it’s my first story I’ve ever loved to both experience AND retell, so I’d love for you guys to read it.) c:

Hey there :)
So yesterday I played Journey again. (Omg, yes, I’m playing every day, I will never get this stupid return-trophy x’D I know there is a way to cheat, but… I think that’s not the sense of the game >_>~)

So, well.
I met this newbie fellow at the very beginning. I was a whitecloak and was so happy to finally meet someone who I could show things they haven’t seen before!
This was the first time for me and I was very excited, because in my previous Journeys as a whitecloak I always met companions who already knew what I knew.

I didn’t know which trophys he already had, so I tried to show him as much as I could, because in my very first games, I really enjoyed to have companions who showed me stuff and who knew where to go so I could follow.

So I showed him the symbols and glyphs in this level and suggested him to not activate the bridge completely and follow me.
We tried crossing it together and I chirped to charge his scarf. I was so happy that it worked right away and that he stood there up the bridge and chirped as if he wanted to say thank you :) Well, I fell down, because I was so concentrated on him xD But I made my way back to the beginning of the bridge and flew up to him. He still stood there waiting for me and that was so beautiful to me <3

I lead him threw the next level, too. He seemed to be as unoriented as I was all the times before in this level (before I finally found this map which helped me to find everything, so I now know where all the cloth, symbols and glyphs are.. xD) and followed me everywhere <3 This was so cute :)
I went ahead and waited at every stop we made so that he could activate everything and gain the trophys. He seemed to be so happy when I showed him the Fl0wer that it made me even more happy.
The times he fell down because he wasn’t as well trained in flying as I was, I tried helping him with chirping to charge his scarf or I just let me fall down, too, to make my way together with him.

The following levels were like the previous, I lead him and he followed, I somehow started to feel like as if he was my baby. We were such a good team and everything worked in a way which made me feel like if this wasn’t the first time we played together. I reeeeally enjoyed that <3

In the tower level I  was eager to show my newbie the fl0w bug so he could earn this trophy, too.
So I chirped permanently and sunk down the tower. When I arrived I couldn’t see him anywhere so I kinda paniced that he maybe completed the level without me. I flew up as fast as I could and found him running around totally confused. When he saw me he flew to me and chirped as if he had thought, too, that he lost me. I chirped and let me fall down again, hoping that he finally understood that he may follow. And yes! It worked! So we sunk down together and I swum into a room. I was confused because there was nothing. I foated out again and recognized that I was in the wrong part of the tower - outch! xD I was so sorry and chirped to let him know that we had to sink a little more…
There we collected the trophy and swam up again.

In the icy desert I walked along the wall because I think this is a more safe way and that the chance to get caught by one of the monsters is really small. I wanted to protect my baby <3
So we walked there together and arrived at the hidden glyph. I let him activate it and we went on, doing our way through the icy winds.
We were at a part of the way where I have never ever seen this light before when it suddenly popped out of nowhere and turned red.

OMG I was so shocked in that moment because the monster had my little redcloak in their sights. I tried to save him, tried to get the attention of the creature by jumping in front of my companion so that it would maybe catch me and not him.
It didn’t work. The creature now attacked us both and we lost half of our scarfs.
I was so very sorry that this happened. I really wanted to prevent this, I wanted to protect him… :’(
After we landed again, we continued our way and finished this part of the level.
The rest of the game proceeded normally.

We reached the summit together and I waited for him, when he fell down, which happend.. erm.. twice :) One time I thought I lost him because I couldn’t see or hear him. There was no white light at any side of my screen and I started to feel sad when he suddenly landed next to me.
We flew up together and I drew him a heart <3
He ran around excitedly and chirped. When I wanted to continue the way he stood still. I guess he wanted the game not to end. I was so very touched by this <3 I ran around him chirping and he chirped back. After a while we both went on and into the light.

This was such a beautiful journey, I wish I could play with this one again. There were still so many things I hadn’t shown him…

But well, I want to thank you for being such a lovely companion, dear floot-roops <3

After I wrote you, I thought I could have a glance at your trophys and I had to laugh so hard, when I recognized that I’d shown you 8 (!!!!!). I wrote to you that I hoped that I could have shown you some stuff you haven’t known before, but I never thought that it were SO many things xD
I’m sorry if I showed you too much, which you maybe wanted to explore on your own…
But I hope you had as much fun as I had! <3



What made this Journey even more beautiful was that my mom sat next to me in the middle of the game and watched while I played. She stayed until the end and always asked questions. She said, she would now understand why I love this game so much and seemed to be very enchanted!

I just lost my wonderful red robe companion and was synched to the rudest white robe I have ever met. I few over a huge expanse of desert, trying to catch up with him. He never once acknowledged I was back there trying to catch up or waited for me. And when I did catch up he went ahead with complete disregard for me, despite my efforts to keep his scarf charged while he flew around. He just flew up to the top of the tower and completed the level without me. I know its a game, but I couldn’t help feeling rejected. This makes me sad. I hope the rest of my journey is more fun.
