I had my best journey yet last night.
I discovered journeystories months ago, and have read many submissions about wise, benevolent white cloaks teaching inexperienced players how to access glitch areas, showing them how to to faceplant, helping them gain trophies, etc. Even though I have gathered all the symbols, and therefore am able to wear the white cloak, I don’t know all of Journey’s secrets. Every time I read a story on this blog about the kind, knowledgable white cloaks, I hoped I would meet one. Well, last night, I came home after work and put in my Journey: Collector’s Edition. I donned my white cloak and went on my way, wondering when I would meet another person. When I reached the broken bridge area, another white cloak suddenly appeared next to me! They immediately let out a “long” chirp; I responded in kind, and we giddily greeted each other.
I soon discovered that I’d met one of THE white cloaks.
They patiently endured my clumsy moments, waiting for and encouraging me every step of the way. They attempted to show me some glitch areas, too. I doubt you’ll ever read this, fellow white cloak, but I’m SO sorry I didn’t get it - thank you for being so patient with me, though! I did pick up on how to faceplant, though, and I was thrilled! I’d never been able to faceplant before. The entire time, they seemed so glad to be journeying with me, and I was just as happy!
When we reached the snow fields, I got caught in a war machine’s light, and they threw themselves into the light along with me. That gesture alone… wow. When we ascended the summit and at the end, we danced through the skies, chirping together. We meditated on top of a gateway, and before we walked into the light, they drew a heart for me. In the past, I’d hoped and hoped that I’d meet a Journeyer who would do that! I drew a heart in return before we walked into the light. I was sad that it ended, but also grateful, humbled and happy. I was so overcome that I actually cried as the credits rolled.
In conclusion: thank you for everything, my friend. I wish you luck on all your journeys!
