An absolutely fascinating hour-long talk by Jenova Chen given at the 2013 Game Developers’ Conference.
Overview taken from the site:
It took thatgamecompany three years to develop a two-hour long video game. Many high-level experimental ideas were tested and failed, and many lessons were learned during the design and production of the game. 12 months have passed since the game was launched, and we would like to share what we learned with you. This talk will give you the insight into the process thatgamecompany took to come up the original concept for Journey, how we polished and executed the design to realize an emotional arc, and most importantly, the difficult lessons we learned throughout the process.
Many thanks to Tumblr user fyretrk for sending us the link!

Submit your fan names for Journey’s world and characters so the wonderful chirpyeahjourney can create a fan encyclopedia! :D

Once again, Journey has absolutely dominated the world of videogame award ceremonies!
At the Game Developers Choice Awards, Journey won SIX awards:
Game Of The Year, Innovation Award, Best Audio, Best Downloadable Game, Best Game Design, and Best Visual Arts.
Three cheers for Journey and thatgamecompany’s astonishing success!
My journeyer never made it to the white hood, but it was being fine like this.
:3 My good friend, hawkeyefan379, was playing with someone in one of the snow glitches when she had to turn off the game. She’s telling me y’all had seen some rocks, followed this zig-zag path, and then got separated. Y’all had been able to communicate with one another but there was no way to actually get to one another. At around this point she had to turn off the game because she didn’t see anyway you’d be able to get back together.
A bit of background information - this white scarf is really cute and bubbly and new all the glitches. All of them.
My friend hadn’t been able to get into the Ancient City glitch until this white cloak had come back out of it and helped them.
You both met up at the Broken Bridge. You had a brief separation at the Underground City - she had been off following a bird and you had been off swimming with the fishies.
:D That’s about it.
So, if you’re that person or if this sounds even somewhat familiar to you, totally message me your PSN so that I can message her your PSN and she can say hi and apologise for not being able to finish the game with you. <3
I’ve been sick and thought about playing to relax, right? I started on the last level and found a partner at the area where you shelter yourself behind the tombs?? from the wind. They were quite ahead of me, so I raced to get to them. It turned out they’re one of those partners that don’t want anything to do with you; but I tried staying with them anyways, refilling their scarf and so. We got to the last section of the area where the Guardians fly around and I got spotted trying to catch up. My scarf got ripped and they went on. Still trying to catch up, I got spotted again; leaving me with a single piece of scarf, just enough to jump once. I decided to got back to the hub instead of continuing. I went into the 3rd level and got a new partner; they were nice and playful and flew around with me. When we got to the last level; close to the part where we die in the snow, the power went out for a split second. I tried to turn it back on and see if I could salvage it, but couldn’t.
The last time I played, everything went fine and we finished together. I went to send them a thank you message, but they only spoke Japanese.
Man, what a bummer. :( Maybe next time will be better.
